Textured fabrics and layering are essential trends in interior design that add depth, warmth, and visual interest to a space. Textured fabrics, such as velvet, chenille, and faux fur, bring unique feels and visual appeal to a room. Mixing textures, like a smooth leather sofa paired with a chunky knit throw, can create a sophisticated and dynamic environment. These textures not only enhance the comfort of a space but also allow for seasonal adaptations, with heavier fabrics like wool being ideal for winter and lighter ones like linen for summer.

Layering, on the other hand, involves adding multiple elements to create visual depth and complexity. This can be achieved by layering rugs, incorporating various throw pillows, or combining different fabrics in upholstery and curtains. Effective layering also involves mixing colors and patterns, such as placing a patterned rug over a solid carpet, which introduces visual interest. Beyond aesthetics, layering serves a functional purpose by combining different lighting sources—ambient, task, and accent—to create a well-rounded and versatile space.

When combining both trends, you can create a rich, multi-dimensional look by layering different textured fabrics. For example, a velvet throw over a linen sofa or a wool rug on top of a jute rug can enhance a room's coziness and style. Textured accent pieces like cushions or throws can be used to add layers of comfort and can be easily swapped to refresh the room's look. Additionally, layering in decor through elements such as framed prints combined with textile art or tapestries further personalizes and enriches a space. Overall, these trends work together to make rooms feel more curated, inviting, and uniquely styled.
